Modbus Support of Wireless Vibration and Temperature Sensors

Broadsens’s true real-time wireless vibration and temperature sensor system now supports Modbus TCP now. SVT200-V, SVT300-V and SVT400-V are the only true real-time wireless vibration and temperature sensors with four-year or more battery life in typical usage. The sensors are ideal for manufacturing, civil structures, compressors, train and heavy machinery, mining, food processing, chemical and many other applications that require continuous monitoring. The new Modbus TCP interface allows the vibration and temperature sensors data to be read by machines and PLCs that support Modbus TCP protocol. The sensors come with innovative dynamic sample design, which samples x, y and z axes acceleration continuously, and switches to 6.4kHz sampling rate immediately if the acceleration exceeds 0.1g in any of the axes for more than 330ms. The sensor acquires a fixed number of samples, calculates velocity RMS and acceleration RMS value, and sends the result plus temperature to the wireless gateway. BroadVibra software is installed the gateway and can add the Modbus TCP node per user's request. Once activated, then user can read the vibration and temperature values via Modbus TCP interface.

Each SVT-V series sensor’s data and information include: time stamp, sensor ID, sensor group, MAC address, RSSI, battery level, firmware version, vibration velocity RMS in x, y and z axis, acceleration RMS in x, y and z axis, and temperature measurement. Time stamp includes year, month, date, hour, minute and second, and it occupies 6 registers.

The default Modbus TCP port for Broadsens gateway is 10502. The port can be modified to "502" or any available ports at the gateway. Please contact Broadsens for the Modbus guide on how to change the Modbus port.

IP69K Wireless Vibration and Temperature Sensors

Broadsens's ultra-low power wireless vibration and temperature sensors now have IP69K waterproof and dustproof option. The IP69K rating means that a device can withstand intensive cleaning with high-pressure, high-temperature jets. IP69K products are ideal for industries where sanitation is a primary concern, such as food processing and pharmaceutical applications. Broadsens's wireless vibration and temperature sensors have been used for predictive maintenance and condition monitoring in pharmacy and food industry. In the following application, SVT200-A wireless vibration & temperature sensors are used in food processing to monitor the integrity of production line.

In the picture, SVT200-A wireless vibration & temperature sensors are used in food processing industry. The sensors are triple-coated from inside to outside. The circuit board and battery are coated with high temperature and chemical resistant silicone. Then Teflon tape is used to wrap around the internal for further protection. The sensor thread is processed with vibration resistant, waterproof thread lock. Then silicone coating is applied again to the exterior of the sensor. Finally, a transparent aqua-grade tube is used to prevent accidental damage to the waterproof thread. The materials are food-grade safe. The sensors are power washed every day with high pressure jet, so IP69K is a must for this application.

Broadsens's SVT-A and SVT-V sensors can monitor the production line continuously non-stop. Paired with Broadsens's edge-computing wireless gateways, several GBs of production data can be collected in a short time for predictive maintenance purpose. The wireless gateways come with large storge space (64GB in default), which allows for edge-computing and save bandwidth to send data to remote sites.

Wireless Temperature Sensor SVT200-T Measuring Contact Temperature

Ultra-low power wireless temperature SVT200-T measures contact surface temperature. Most wireless temperature sensors in the market can only measure the ambient temperature. Thanks to the innovative design from Broadsens, SVT200-T's temperature sensor IC's heat pad is located at the bottom of the sensor. SVT200-T's bottom is made of heat conductive metal, which transfers the heat to the measuring area of the sensor. To measure the contact surface temperature more accurately, user should put the top of SVT200-T close to the measurement area. The side wall of the metal base has vertical threads. The thread on the temperature sensor area is removed, so that user can identify the top quickly (Figure 1). It is the best to arrange the measurement area close to the sensor location for more accurate contact surface temperature measurement (Figure 2).

Wireless temperature sensor SVT200-T has the best battery efficiency in the industry in terms of measurement frequency. It measures contact surface temperature every 15s, compared to 1 minute to several hours frequency from other sensors. This make SVT200-T one of the best wireless temperature sensors in the industry. Wireless Gateway Software Enhancements

Broadsens's wireless gateway software BroadVibra got new improvements. The software new version is 2.7.0, which offers the following new features:

  1. Multiple group support for real-time wireless vibration and temperature sensors SVT200-V, SVT300-V and SVT400-V. Before version 2.7.0, each gateway only supports a single group of SVT-V series sensors. The multiple group ability allows at least 30 SVT-V series sensors connect to the gateway and send out overall vibration measurements in real time.
  2. New miniature wireless temperature sensor SVT200-T support. SVT200-T is one of the best wireless temperatures sensors for industrial applications with wide temperature range, the shortest measurement interval with one of the longest battery life. The new software allows each gateway to support up to 100 SVT200-T sensors
  3. Optimizing memory usage for live vibration data display, and the ability to hide a sensor type's information table.

There are 256 groups available for SVT-V series sensors. The number of groups can be extended to 65535 for very large-scale applications. Each group's real-time wireless vibration data can be observed in real time. Multiple sensors belong to the same group. So user can mount several SVT-V series sensors in the same group to monitor a large machine's condition.

The sensor data are saved in the time-series database inside the gateway. Each group's data can be reviewed together. User can also select individual sensor's data to review. With the "step forward" and "step backward" button, user can see the machine's condition in any time. The true real-time vibration monitoring ability of SVT200-V, SVT300-V and SVT400-V make them ideal for machine condition monitoring and predictive analysis.

User can also mount sensors in the same group to different machines.

Wireless high temperature sensor SVT200-T is coming

Wireless high temperature sensor SVT200-T is coming soon! This high performance miniaturized wireless temperature sensor SVT200-T is an upgrade to the ultra-low power wireless temperature sensor SVT100-T. Similar to SVT100-T, SVT200-T also measures contact surface temperature. But wireless temperature sensor SVT200-T offers a much wider temperature range than SVT100-T. Both sensors are designed for industrial usage and can survive harsh environments with IP68 water proof rating.

With the new design, SVT200-T can work in high temperature up to 105 degree Celsius (221 degree Fahrenheit), and as low as -50 degree Celsius (-58 degree Fahrenheit).

Wireless high temperature sensor SVT200-T comes with food-grade safe metal base, which makes the sensor reusable. SVT200-T sends out temperature measurement every 15 seconds, which makes it one of the fastest wireless temperature sensors in the industry.

This miniaturized wireless high temperature sensor is also very low profile, which allows the sensor to be mounted in very tight spaces.
