Periodic Timer and Synchronized Multi DAQ

Broadsens is excited to add two new features to the popular ultra-low power wireless vibration sensors: periodic DAQ ability and synchronized multi DAQ mode.

Periodic DAQ ability.

If enabled, this ability is added for each timer. There could be multiple groups of SVTA-series wireless vibration sensors for a Broadsens wireless gateway. Each group can also have multiple SVT-A series sensors. Each group can have multiple timers too. Each timer can have a starting time, and ending time. For example, group "08" can have a starting time of 8:00am and ending time of 11:00am. When periodic DAQ is enabled, then one can specify the sensors in a group to take data periodically. For example, a period of 10 minutes and DAQ duration of 2 minutes can be added to the timer from 8:00am to 11:00am. Then the wireless vibration sensors in group "08" will take data at 8:00am for 2 minutes; 8:10am for 2 minutes; 8:20am for 2 minutes ..., until 11:00am the timer stops.

Synchronized multi DAQ mode

Wireless vibration sensors at the same group can be synchronized to take data in multi DAQ mode now. In this mode, all sensors start taking a fixed number of samples at a specified sampling rate (400Hz up to 25.6kHz) at the same time, and transferring the data to the gateway wirelessly; when all sensors finished transferring the samples, then they start taking another fixed number of samples at the given sampling rate at the same time, and transferring the data to the gateway again. This process is repeated until a user manually stops the data acquisition, or a timer sends out the "stop" command automatically.

The selectable sample points are: 2,048, 4,096, 8,192 and 16,384. The synchronize number currently is limited from 2 to 4 sensors. There is no limit on how long a user wants to take data. This long-time data acquisition ability makes Broadsens's wireless vibration sensors one of the best in the industry.

This data acquisition is very useful to monitor the machine condition for a long period of time. With all sensors are synchronized to take data in the same group, the data can be compared with each other and find potential defects of the machine.

Both new features can be found at the latest vibration sensor control and analysis software BroadVibra version 2.2.2 and later.

Real-time wireless vibration monitoring of Pipe

Broadsens just increased its lead as one of the best wireless vibration sensor manufacturers in the industry. Broadsens upgraded its high performance real-time wireless vibration and temperature sensor SVT200-V again. The response time is increased from 1s to be less than 0.5 second. This makes SVT200-V response at least 100 times faster than other real-time wireless vibration sensors in the market. In the previous version, it is also possible for SVT200-V to miss some impacts if the impact event falls out of the monitoring window. In this new design, SVT200-V monitors the vibration event continuously without any gap. The power consumption is still comparable to the previous version, and it is the best in the industry.

In this application, SVT200-V is used for pipe monitoring. Broadsens's ultra-low power wireless vibration sensor SVT200-V is designed for real-time vibration and temperature monitoring.  SVT200-V has similar or even longer battery life than similar wireless vibration sensors and it has much smaller size. This is all thanks to Broadsens's innovative design and constant R&D investment.

SVT200-V is easy to mount with screws, ties, hanging wires or epoxy. In the following application, hanging wire is used to mount one sensor (sensor #1) on the pipe close to the hot water pump. We used two real-time wireless vibration monitoring sensors SVT200-V in this setup.

Another sensor #11 is mounted in another spot with lower temperature. The pictures show a clear comparison before the pump is on and after the pump is on. There is a sudden jump of vibration velocity and acceleration RMS value from sensor #1 when the pump is turned on.

When there is no vibration, SVT200-V sends out measurements every 10s. When there is vibration detected, the wireless vibration sensor switches to high frequency data acquisition mode and sends out measurements within 0.5s continuously.

Innovative design makes SVT200-V can detect both low frequency defects and high frequency defects with the machines.

SVT300-A and SVT400-A Ready, New Vibration DAQ Mode

New ultra-low power wireless vibration sensors SVT300-A and SVT400-A are available to pre-order now! Please be aware of that SVT400-A has more than 2-month shipping lead time since they are all pre-booked after the news announcement. We will do our best to make SVT400-A available ASAP. The major difference between wireless vibration sensors SVT200-A, SVT300-A and SVT400-A is the acceleration range. Here is the summary:

Wireless vibration sensorAcceleration range
SVT200-A+/-2g, +/-4g, +/-8g
SVT300-A+/-2g, +/-4g, +/-8g, +/-16g
SVT400-A+/-8g, +/-16g, +/-32g, +/-64g
Compact wireless Vibration sensors with different acceleration range

Wireless Vibration sensors SVT200-A, SVT300-A and SVT400-A

SVT200-A has the best vibration sensitivity, SVT300-A covers the most commonly used acceleration range with the same noise performance as the SVT200-A, and SVT400-A covers the high acceleration applications such as online train pantograph monitoring or train bogie vibration monitoring. SVT400-A also has excellent signal to noise ratio compared to other wireless vibration sensors in the industry. Combined with Broadsens wireless gateway and vibration analysis software, Broadsens provides one of the best wireless vibration monitoring solutions in the industry. Broadsens's A-series wireless vibration sensors (SVT200-A, SVT300-A and SVT400-A) have the most advanced wireless data acquisition and transmission technology in the industry.

New Multi DAQ mode

An exciting new vibration data acquisition mode is available for Broadsens ultra-low power wireless vibration sensors. The new mode is called multi DAQ mode. The multi DAQ mode is basically automatic repeated run of single DAQ modes. The multi DAQ mode allows continuous data acquisition at user specified sampling rate and sample points. The sampling rate is guaranteed at the sensor side, which makes this mode extremely useful for vibration frequency domain analysis. Compared to single DAQ mode, the multi DAQ mode can take data continuously non-stop. All wireless gateways with vibration analysis software BroadVibra version 2.1.6 and later will have this mode. Previous version of wireless vibration sensors should also upgrade the firmware to have the capability.

Impact of global chip shortage on products shipment

Due to the pandemic that caused global chip shortage, Broadsens was also affected. Fortunately, Broadsens has allocated resources to stock up the supplies. Therefore, the delivery of multichannel ultrasonic thickness gauge UT200s, multichannel ultrasonic scanner BroadScan D200 and multichannel ultrasonic scanner BroadScan D110C will not be affected in the upcoming 2-3 months.

We especially allocated lots of resources for the popular ultra-low power wireless vibration sensors SVT200-A and SVT200-V,  so that there should not be a problem for the upcoming orders too. Although we were hit hard on the materials costs and labor costs, Broadsens will do the best to keep the same price while delivering the products on time. As an example, our wireless gateway costs increased at least 30% compared to half a year ago. But we expect that the cost will go down when global chip supply stabilizes in 2022. So we decided to keep the same price as before.

In the mean time, the upcoming wireless vibration sensors SVT300-A and SVT400-A were postponed slightly to meet the strong demands for wireless vibration and temperature sensors SVT200-A and SVT200-V first. All Broadsens wireless vibration sensors share the same high precision temperature sensors, which has +/-0.3 degree Celsius accuracy without calibration . The good news is that SVT300-A and SVT400-A will be available for pre-order in 1-2 weeks.

SVT300-A and SVT400-A are coming

Ultra-low power wireless vibration sensors SVT300-A and SVT400-A will be coming to Broadsens's machine condition monitoring and predictive maintenance system soon. Broadsens aims to provide the best wireless vibration sensors in the industry. SVT300-A offers the following acceleration measurement ranges: +/-2g, +/-4g, +/-8g and +/-16g; SVT400-A offers the following acceleration measurement ranges: +/-8g, +/-16g, +/-32g and +/-64g. The acceleration ranges are adjustable via the BroadVibra software. These two upcoming ultra-low power wireless vibration sensors will provide complete vibration monitoring solutions combined with SVT200-A and SVT200-V wireless vibration sensors. SVT200-A offers the best sensitivity range among the three models, SVT300-A covers the mostly commonly used acceleration ranges with excellent signal to noise ratio, and SVT400-A is ideal for high vibration environments with acceleration up to 64g.

Similar to SVT200-A, SVT300-A and SVT400-A wireless vibration sensors provide the best battery efficiency in the industry. The typical current consumption is 2.1uA when the sensors are idle. In real-time mode, the average current consumption is less than 200uA including data acquisition and transmission. Both upcoming sensors have the same footage as SVT200-A. They also have two base material options: hardened aluminum alloy 6061 for light-weight applications, and stainless steel for highly corrosive environments. For typical applications, it is recommended to use the hardened aluminum alloy 6061 due to its light weight property, which has less intrusion for vibration monitoring. Please note that even the stainless steel version of Broadsens' wireless vibration sensors are much lighter than most other wireless vibration sensors. A bulky vibration sensor will affect the vibration measurement accuracy.

SVT300-A and SVT400-A also have adjustable sampling rate from 50Hz up to 25.6kHz in different sampling modes. Therefore, the operation of SVT300-A and SVT400-A are exactly the same as the ultra-low power wireless vibration sensor SVT200-A. Broadsens A-series wireless vibration sensors are ideal for machine condition monitoring and predictive maintenance purpose. These sensors should be used with Broadsens's edge computing wireless gateway for advanced vibration analysis.
